2004 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. America's best-selling suv. introductionford explorer is the modern american station wagon. Ford sells more than 400,000 explorers a year, making it the best-selling suv and the sixth best-selling vehicle in america, and it's held these titles for a dozen years. Though quite capable as a tow vehicle and able to venture off the highway, most explorers, like most suvs, spend their entire lives shuttling people and performing the duties station wagons performed when baby boomers were growing up. The explorer answers this call admirably and comfortably, which is part of the reason it's so popular.  the explorer is roomy and comfortable. It's capable of seating seven people when equipped with the optional third-row seat that folds flat into the cargo floor when not being used. Part of the reason for this is that the explorer benefits from a superb five-speed automatic transmission.  safety features abound: anti-lock brakes come standard, and side-curtain air bags, designed to provide rollover protection, are optional and highly recommended. Ford's advancetrac electronic stability system is available for all xlt, eddie bauer, and limited models, providing improved traction and safety. The current model rides on a wider track and a longer wheelbase, giving it a more solid, more stable stance. Its newly developed independent rear suspension gives it a smoother ride and better handling than suvs with traditional live rear axles.  new car test drive chose the explorer as the best all-around sport-utility vehicle for 2003. An overhead-cam v8 800) is an option for all models except the xls. All models come standard with the five-speed automatic. Xlt comes with aluminum alloy wheels, a new chrome grille and black-grain outside door handles. Leather trimmed upholstery with a six-way power driver's seat is available for $655. Nbx includes a yakima loadwarrior roof rack, which features a cargo basket made of heavy-duty steel, two-tone bumpers, body cladding, wheel-lip moldings, step bars, front tow hooks, and 17-inch aluminum wheels with p245/65r17 all-terrain tires. The nbx interior is trimmed with unique seat fabric, special rubber floormats, and a soft liner for the cargo area with a storage bag.  eddie bauer 33,100) and limited 33,975) come with leather trimmed seating surfaces, automatic dual-zone climate control, 290-watt six-cd stereo with seven speakers, and wider tires. Six-way adjustable heated power seats with dual lumbar supports are used in front, and the driver's seat has a three-position memory feature. The top two explorer models differ in their distinctive trim: eddie bauer comes with arizona beige bumpers, moldings, lower bodyside cladding, 17-inch satin-nickel wheels and grille, and p245/65r17 all-terrain tires. Limited uses monochromatic bumpers, moldings and cladding with a chrome grille and unique 17-inch chrome wheels. The limited model is available in new ceramic white tri-coat.  options include third-row seating 670), auxiliary air conditioning 610), power-adjustable pedals 120), reverse sensing system 255), and a power moonroof 800). Located in the roof, it is designed to help protect first- and second-row outboard occupants during side-impact or rollover accidents. The safety canopy is designed to improve side-impact protection by staying inflated for a longer period. Ford has done a great deal of research on this technology and we strongly reco. walkaroundthe current ford explorer is the same length overall as the pre-2002 models, but it rides on a longer wheelbase (by 2 inches) and a wider track. Pushing the wheels out toward the corners makes the explorer more stable and more comfortable. Though ubiquitous, it is a handsome, good-looking vehicle. Front and rear fascia are smoothly integrated, while jeweled headlamps and tail lamps give it a sophisticated look. Yet, it clearly evokes the previous-generation explorer. No one will have trouble identifying it, and few will notice it at all. Uplevel models come standard with an illuminated keypad on the door for keyless entry. The keypad doesn't improve the appearance of the explorer, but it continues to be a popular feature among loyal owners. interiorthe explorer is a comfortable vehicle, even on long trips. Handsome pecan wood accents lend a luxurious appearance. Light-colored trim on the inside a-pillars and grab handles add to the light, airy atmosphere. It's a successful execution, though the mouse-fur roof liner is nothing to write home about. The leather-trimmed upholstery is attractive. However, we wish ford would have stitched leather all the way around to the inside edge of the seat bottom instead of using carpet there to save money.  the front seats are comfortable. They are wider and offer more fore-and-aft travel than before. We found the cloth seats in the xlt comfortable, firm, and supportive, with lots of adjustments. The same held true for the leather seats in the eddie bauer model.  seat heaters are part of the eddie bauer way of living. The buttons that control them are mounted in an awkward location, on the sides of seats. Reaching down to the side of the driver's seat, the left hand is confronted with an array of seat adjusters; finding and pressing the seat-heater button is a challenge. Likewise, it isn't always easy to find the seat-height adjuster. Rake is easy to adjust, and there's a knob on the up-level seats for cranking in some lumbar support.  adjustable pedals, a tilt steering wheel, and long seat travel help the explorer fit a wide variety of body types. Big coat hooks accommodate thick hangers and big loads of dry cleaning, something few manufacturers get right. Nicely designed cubbies with rubber mats provide space for wallet, sunglasses, a pen, cans, and bottles. A relatively large center console keep odds and ends in check. Interior door handles seem a bit awkward at first, but that.

2003 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The modern american wagon. introductionthe ford explorer is one of the best sport-utilities in its class. A stiffer frame and a fully independent suspension provide superior ride and handling on road and off road. Its v6 was revised last year and a v8 was added as an option. Both are available with a superb five-speed automatic. It's roomy, capable of seating seven people when equipped with the optional third row that folds flat into the cargo floor when not being used.  for 2003, ford added more standard equipment and important new options. Xls comes a high level of standard equipment, including a new am/fm/cassette/cd stereo, but it does not offer some of the high-zoot options available on the other models, including the v8. 2008 ford escape review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. One of ford's best gets better. introductionthe ford escape has been thoroughly updated for 2008, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it america's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. The escape's standard safety features are upgraded significantly for 2008.  we'd call the escape a little truck among small suvs. Its new styling deliberately invokes ford's larger, truck-based expedition and explorer sport-utilities. Escape's ride height and seating position are a bit higher than competitors such as the honda cr-v, and it can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is substantially more than most other vehicles in the class.  yet the ford escape still delivers the advantages of unit-body, car-based competitors such as the honda cr-v. All variants, including the v6 and escape hybrid, deliver some of best epa mileage ratings in the class. All, including the gas-electric hybrid, are offered with either front- or all-wheel drive. For the most part, the hybrid drives just like a conventional gas-only escape. It's a well-executed package. Folding the rear seats opens a good sized cargo area with a flat floor, and space behind the seat surpasses that in the trunk of the typical sedan. Interior storage options have improved considerably. The finish is more upscale and pleasing, and feature function and switches are among the best.  safety features that were extra-cost options on lower-trim models are now standard across the board, including ford's roll stability control system. Escape now sets the class benchmark for safety features.  there's a ford escape model for most tastes and needs. Dollar for feature, ford escape prices have dropped considerably the past few years. The premium for the escape hybrid has also decreased. It's now less than $2,000 more than a comparably equipped limited.  the ford escape remains one of the more appealing vehicles in its class, regardless of price, and certainly one of the better values. The xls comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power windows, mirrors and locks, an am/fm stereo with cd and auxiliary jack, rear window defroster and 16-inch steel wheels.    the escape xlt 20,880) and xlt 4wd 22,360) add more standard features, including upgraded cloth upholstery, a power driver's seat, cruise control, privacy glass and 16-inch alloy wheels. The cargo convenience group 395) includes a retractable cargo area cover and a compartmentalized rear storage bin. The audiophile package 695) includes a high-power stereo with seven speakers, subwoofer and the in-dash cd changer. The limited luxury package 795) adds dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and a back-up warning system. The audiophile and navigation package 2,695) includes the stereo upgrade and ford's touch-screen navigation system; in the hybrid, it also adds a meter that graphically and immediately demonstrates the benefits of hybrid drive, and helps the driver maximize fuel economy. Other options include cruise control 225), cd changer 295), a power moonroof 795), floor mats 55), 16-inch alloy wheels 375), 17-inch chromed wheels 695), and a class ii towing package 345).  safety features have been upgraded substantially for 2008, making equipment that was previously optional on lower trim levels standard across the board, and setting the class benchmark for small sport-utilities. Passive safety features include front- and side-impact airbags for front occupants and curtain-type head protection airbags for all outboard seats. The side curtains can remain inflated for several seconds in the event of a rollover, and are designed to slide between the side glass and occupants if the people are oddly seated or resting heads against a window. Rsc adds a second gyroscopic roll-rate sensor to the typical stability control package, measuring the escape's roll angle and roll rate and applying countermeasures (such as braking one of the wheels or reducing power) to increase rollover resistance. walkaroundthe 2008 ford escape has been re-styled more thoroughly than a quick glance might suggest. None of its major body panels are common to previous models, but the redesign is evolutionary and the most obvious changes are in the details, or jewelry, as designers call them. In an impressionistic way, the new escape will look familiar to those who have owned previous escapes, or those who pay attention to what others drive.  as such, the new escape has the air of a conventional, truck-based suv, with a more rugged look than many other small, sedan-platform sport-utilities such as the honda cr-v. For starters, escape sits a bit higher than many competitors (8. 1 inches of ground clearance), and the high profile is enhanced by its design.  the new grille looks like it was designed for a truck. The headlights are essentially connected to the grille, and shaped to create a family resemblance with ford's edge crossover suv. Yet the grille itself is tall and flat and stacked right on top of a skid plate-type fascia that flows under the bumper. Escape's beltline, or the crease that runs just under the windows, is high, too, and its roof pillars are blacked out. The taillights have a clear band that wraps around the rear corners. The lower bumpers and rocker panels are now painted to match the body on all models, rather than molded in a matte finish. In total, the effect is cleaner and more polished than previous models, and it's all quite handsome.  the trim levels are easy to distinguish from the front of the car. The base escape xls has a chrome grille and body-colored fascia from the bumper down. The xlt is identical, except for prominent fog lights in the front bumper. This adds the chrome grille and more, with brightwork flowing down into the skid plate and bumper. It looks like a big, shiny t on the front of the vehicle.  some changes to the new escape are functional more than aesthetic. The side mirrors are larger than before, but ford claims their shape generates less noise as air speeds over them. The roof, too, is designed to reduce interior noise. Recessed channels running its length are intended to move air more quietly over the surface. Horizontal ribs underneath the panel add structure, which limits flex in the metal and reduces booming noise inside at high speeds.  we're fond of a couple of features in back of the escape. A new step pad on the bumper provides secure footing for anyone who steps up to put something on the roof rack, and the two-piece tailgate is handy. The rear glass can be popped open with the key fob, so dropping small items like a gym bag into the cargo area is much easier than it might be with some competitors, which require hefting the entire gate upward. interiorthe 2008 ford escape interior is all new, and we like it. It's not significantly roomier or a leap forward in design, but it's well thought out and well executed. It's a definite improvement in ergonomic function and overall visual appeal, and it makes a nicer place to spend time.  this is one of ford's best interiors in years in terms of the look and feel of materials used. It looked like the lacquered finish on a fine piano. The satiny black or silver used in lower trim levels isn't bad, either. Xls and xlt come standard with cloth upholstery; eddie bauer and limited come trimmed in leather.  an overhead-cam v6 engine is standard on all models. An overhead-cam v8 800) is an option for all models except the xls. Ford's new five-speed automatic transmission 1095) is optional and we highly recommend it. Xls comes a high level of standard equipment, including a new am/fm/cassette/cd stereo, but it does not offer some of the high-zoot options available on the other models, including the v8. An $1150 sport group for the xls adds the premium center console, step bars, body-color metallic wheel lip moldings, and 16-inch aluminum wheels.  xlt 28,745) gets nicer sport cloth upholstery, a six-way power driver's seat, body-colored exterior trim, and more luxury features, such as a temperature gauge and compass, map lights and dome lights, outside approach lighting, extra power outlets, and an illuminated keypad for keyless entry. The five-speed automatic transmission is standard, and aluminum alloy wheels replace steel wheels. New for 2003 are a chrome grille and black-grain outside door handles. Leather upholstery with a six-way power driver's seat is available for $655. Six-way adjustable heated power seats with dual manual lumbar supports are used in front, and the driver's seat has a three-position memory feature. The top two explorer models differ only in their distinctive trim: eddie bauer comes with arizona beige bumpers, moldings, lower bodyside cladding, satin-nickel wheels and grille, and p245/65r17 all-terrain tires. Limited uses monochromatic bumpers, moldings and cladding with a silver grille and unique wheels; the limited model is available in white pearl-coat paint with frost accents.  options for all models except xls include third-row seating 670), auxiliary air conditioning 610), running boards 395), power adjustable pedals 120), reverse sensing system 255), and power moonroof 800). The canopy also promises improved side-impact protection by staying inflated for a much longer period of time. Ford has done a great deal of research on this technology and we strongly recommend ordering the safety canopy. Dual front airbags are standard, and feature smart technology that adjusts their inflation rate according to the severity of the accident. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are standard on all models; abs allows the driver to brake and steer at the same time in a panic stop. Seatbelts use retractors and pre-tensioners designed to reduce injuries in a hard crash. This newest explorer achieved a 4-star driver/5-star front-passenger ratings in the government's national highway traffic safety administration front crash tests. walkaroundthe current ford explorer is the same length overall as the pre-2002 models, but it rides on a longer wheelbase (by 2 inches) and a much wider track. Pushing the wheels out toward the corners makes the explorer more stable and more comfortable. All new last year, this explorer shares only its name with the pre-2002 models involved in the firestone tire recall.  the explorer's styling is fresh, contemporary. It looks solid and handsome. Smoothly integrated front and rear fascia are used in place of the traditional bumper treatments. Jeweled headlamps and tail lamps give it a sophisticated look. Yet this newly designed explorer clearly evokes the previous-generation explorer. No one will have trouble identifying it. Few will notice it at all. I dropped something next to the curb while getting out of the explorer one dark night; hitting the button on the key fob illuminated the approach lights and i immediately spotted it. Uplevel models come standard with an illuminated keypad on the door for keyless entry. The keypad doesn't improve the appearance of the explorer, but ford says it's a popular feature among loyal owners.  the standard roof rack is designed to support up to 200 pounds. For messier cargo, there's a new nbx package 1110), which includes a yakima multi-use loadwarrior cargo basket, special black exterior trim, special seat cloth, and 17-inch machined aluminum wheels mounted with b. Goodrich rugged trail t/a p245/65r17 tires. interiorthe ford explorer is a comfortable vehicle on long trips. Convenience features abound that make it pleasant while driving and when stopping. The eddie bauer model comes with the traditional beige steering wheel and pinhole leather seating material. Handsome gray wood accents lend a luxurious appearance. Light-colored trim on the inside a-pillars and grab handle add to a light, airy atmosphere. It's a successful execution, though the mouse-fur roof liner is nothing to write home about. We found the cloth seats in the xlt comfortable, firm and supportive, with lots of adjustments.  adjustable pedals, a telescoping steering wheel and long seat travel help the explorer fit a wide variety of body types. Big coat hooks accommodate thick hangers and big loads of dry cleaning, something few manufacturers get right. Nicely designed cubby holes with rubber mats provide space for wallet, sunglasses, a pen, cans, and bottles. A relatively large center console keep odds and ends in check. Interior door handles seem a bit awkward at first, but that went away with familiarization. Map pockets on the insides of the doors are handy and swell at the end to hold water bottles, but wouldn't accommodate my one-liter bottle from poland springs. The front power outlet was positioned well for a cell phone, but like most, was a bit of a reach for a radar detector. The trip computer came in handy, calculating the distance to an empty fuel tank.  the front seats are comfortable. They are wider and offer more fore-and-aft travel than before. Seat heaters are part of the eddie bauer way of living. But the buttons that control them are mounted on the sides of seats, which is a bit awkward. Reaching down to the side of the driver's seat, the left hand is confronted with an array of seat adjusters; finding and pressing the seat-heater button is a challenge. Likewise, it isn't always easy to find the height adjuster. But rake is easy to adjust, and there's a knob on the up-level seats for cranking in some lumbar support.  the second row of seats, the row we recommend for those who didn't get to drive or sit up front, is quite comfortable. 2000 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. There are reasons why it's the best-selling vehicle in the world. introductionford motor company has made billions of dollars of profit by providing a pickup truck for every conceivable family, recreational and commercial use, with the broadest possible spectrum of models. Over the years, ford has continued to lead the pack in overall design, with more and more passenger car features folded into the truck mix every year until it's hard to distinguish between the two from the inside.  for 2000, ford carries on the tradition. Changes include a more comfortable flip-up 40/60 rear seat and an improved 18-degree rear seating angle in the f-150 supercab. A new overhead console and left- and right-side visor vanity mirrors are standard on xlt and lariat f-150 pickups, optional on xl models. A driver's-side keypad entry system is available on lariat models. Chromed steel wheels and 17-inch tires, previously available on 4x4 models only, are available on 4x2 models as well. New colors are island blue clearcoat metallic and chestnut clearcoat metallic. F-250 models also offer a 6. 8-liter v10 engine and a power stroke diesel v8. It is rounder, friendlier and much more like a car than the competition. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. The new chevy and gmc trucks are only a year old, but they already look a bit dated next to the ford, which was mildly restyled last year. The dodge ram has lost its luster, too, compared to the slick f-150. interiorwe find the ford f-150 interior superior in flavor to the gm and dodge competition. The f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's successful passenger cars, such as the ford taurus and lincoln continental. The designers adapted these cues to the pickup's large cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the ford f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and better executed than the competition, big and bold but not outsized for a big vehicle.  the f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. Even in this f-150 xlt standard cab, which comes without the rear seats and without the extra rear doors, there is plenty of room to stretch out. The xlt has new seats this year with cloth covering, a recline feature and a lumbar support on the driver's side for even more driving comfort.  obviously, all standard pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. But since we do a lot more of the former and very little of the latter, we like the high ride. We especially like the ford f-150 because, unlike the dodge, chevrolet or gmc, the aerodynamic hood falls away very rapidly from the base of the windshield so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck; that's handy for maneuvering and parking as well as dealing with traffic ahead. driving impressiontwo-wheel-drive f-150s use conventional steel leaf springs at the rear and a coil spring independent front suspension. We find the brakes on ford trucks to be average in stopping power and average in fade characteristics.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated at 220 horsepower and 290 foot-pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little duff for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. 2005 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. America's most popular suv. introductionfor more than a dozen years, the ford explorer has been the best-selling suv in america. In fact, it's the sixth best-selling vehicle. It's become the standard-issue suburban family hauler. Though capable as a tow vehicle and able to venture off the highway, most explorers spend their lives shuttling people, collecting groceries and performing the duties station wagons performed when baby boomers were growing up. The explorer answers this call admirably and comfortably, and that's a big part of the reason it's so popular.  the explorer is roomy and comfortable. It can seat seven people when equipped with the optional third-row seat, which folds flat into the cargo floor when not needed. Part of the reason for this is a superb five-speed automatic transmission. Explorer's wide track and long wheelbase give it a solid, stable stance, while its independent rear suspension (an unusual feature in a mid-to-large-size suv) gives it a smoother ride and better handling than suvs with traditional live rear axles.  safety features abound. Advancetrac with roll stability control is now standard on all explorers. This sophisticated system not only senses and corrects potential skids and slides, but also monitors for potential rollovers. We recommend the optional safety canopy airbags, which are designed to provide some protection in the event of a rollover. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are also standard, and a tire pressure monitor comes on all but the base model.  the explorer is rated to pull trailers up to 7,140 pounds when properly equipped, and though it does not excel at off-road travel, it can go most of the places most of us need to go. lineupthe 2005 ford explorer is available in six trim levels: xls, xls sport, xlt, xlt sport, eddie bauer, and limited.    an overhead-cam v6 engine is standard on all models. An overhead-cam v8 800) is an option for all models except the xls. All explorers come with a five-speed automatic transmission. Xls sport 2wd 28,260) and 4wd 30,490) add the tire-pressure monitoring system, 16-inch aluminum wheels, black step bars and wheel-lip moldings, an upgraded center console and floor mats.  xlt 2wd 29,650) and 4wd 31,875) get approach lamps in the side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a six-way power driver's seat, lumbar adjustment for both driver and passenger, an overhead console with outside-temperature indicator and compass, and warm steel accents for the center stack. Outside, a monochromatic treatment with chrome grille and fog lamps sets xlt apart. The limited 2wd 34,580) and 4wd 36,805) come with all the eddie bauer goodies, but a somewhat different look, thanks to chromed wheels and roof rails outside and higher-grade single-tone leather inside, with madarin teak accents.  all but xls can be ordered with third-row seating 745), auxiliary rear-compartment air conditioning 650), reverse-sensing system 255), power moonroof 850), and a dvd entertainment system 1,295). A trailer towing prep package 150) replaces the standard class ii hitch with a class iii/iv hitch and adds a 3. 73 (rather than 3. 55) limited-slip rear axle and seven-wire trailer harness.  second-row bucket seats with an extended floor console are available 795) on eddie bauer and limited. An off-road package 385) for xls and xlt consists of skid plates, tow hooks, off-road suspension and all-terrain tires.  the optional safety canopy air curtain system 560) is designed to help protect first- and second-row outboard occupants during side-impacts or rollovers, and is designed to improve rollover protection by staying inflated for a longer period. Ford has done a great deal of research on this technology and we strongly recommend this option. walkaroundwith its wheels pushed out toward the corners, the ford explorer looks stable and comfortable. Though ubiquitous, it is a handsome, good-looking vehicle. Front and rear fascia are smoothly integrated, while jeweled headlamps and tail lamps give it a sophisticated look. Various combinations of bright, blacked-out, color-contrasting or color-coodinated trim distinguish the xls from the xlt from the bauer from the limited. Uplevel models come standard with an illuminated keypad on the door for keyless entry. The keypad doesn't improve the appearance of the explorer, but it continues to be a popular feature among loyal ford owners. interiorthe explorer is a comfortable vehicle, even on long trips. The interior door handles seemed a bit awkward at first, but that went away with familiarization. The front power outlet was positioned well for a cell phone, but like most, was a reach for a radar detector. The trip computer came in handy, calculating the distance to an empty fuel tank. The optional six-disc in-dash cd player sounds good and is easy to operate, with large, clearly marked controls.  the second row of seats is quite comfortable. Many people prefer the second-row bucket seats available on eddie bauer and limited, which are more comfortable but only accommodate two passengers.  seatbelts use retractors and pre-tensioners designed to reduce injuries in a hard crash. The second-row center seat has an integrated shoulder belt, a feature not found on all suvs. All occupants should always wear their seat belts as they are the first line of defense in an accident.  third-row seating is available. In fact, the decision to add third-row seating drove the design and engineering of the current explorer. As a result, ford has done an excellent job of making the third row as roomy as possible, while also making it fold quickly into the floor when it isn't needed. It isn't comfortable for an adult. Head, hip, and leg room in the explorer's third row measure 38. 9, 45. 4, and 34. 9 inches, respectively, versus the envoy xl's 38. 5, 45. 9, and 31. 2. Yet the explorer rides on a relatively handy 113. 7 inch wheelbase, vs. The awkward 129 inches of the extended trailblazer and envoy. It is a tribute to the clever design of ex.

With more than 300,000 sales annually over the past two years, the Explorer has taken over the lead from the Chevy/GMC twins and the Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee in the market’s compact sport/utility segment. The leader of the pack gets a new personality. IntroductionThe Ford Explorer has, in a relative flash, gone from being merely a replacement for the Bronco II to becoming a bona-fide model leader.  It has done so with a combination of crisp good looks, a larger cargo capacity than the competition, a long wheelbase (just under 112 in Bucket Seats✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Player✔ CD Changer✔ Sunroof/Moonroof

Though quite capable as a tow vehicle and able to venture off the highway, most Explorers, like most SUVs, spend their entire lives shuttling people and performing the duties station wagons performed when Baby Boomers were growing up. Ford sells more than 400,000 Explorers a year, making it the best-selling SUV and the sixth best-selling vehicle in America, and it's held these titles for a dozen years. 2004 Ford Explorer Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale

2003 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All the pickup basics and a harley-davidson edition to boot. introductionquieter and more carlike than ever, the ford f-150 continues to be the light-duty pickup truck by which all others are measured. The world's best-selling truck continues to evolve into a sedan with a handy bed attached.  all 2003 models get a new noise control package, 75 improvements in all, according to ford, for a 10-percent quieter ride. Audio system choices now include a cassette/cd player and an in-dash six-cd changer. All 2003 f-150s now have the latch (lower anchors and tethers for children) systems as standard equipment.  a new heritage edition f-150 commemorates 100 years of ford motor company history. An f-150 stx edition is newly available on regular cab and supercab xl and xlt. King ranch models get chrome tubular running boards, a six-disc in-dash cd changer and woodgrain bezels.  . lineupthere is something for everybody at ford's f-150 store; they've made sure of that. Three engines are available: standard engine for the base xl is a 4. 2-liter v6 that makes 202 horsepower. A 4. 6-liter v8 rated at 231 horsepower is optional in xl models and xlt, standard in all others. No light-duty diesel engine is available for f-150 models. The three cab styles are offered in xl, xlt, and lariat trim levels; supercabs and supercrews can also be had as king ranch models, with leather captain's chairs, a premium audio system, and unique badging.  supercrew features rear seats that can quickly be converted into covered cargo space. Overall length is kept reasonable by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5-1/2 feet. The bed is a compromise, but it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup into tight urban or country spaces. The lariat supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and an optional moonroof and rear-seat entertainment system.  air conditioning is standard equipment on almost all f-150s and electronic automatic temperature control is now standard on lariat, king ranch and supercrew models. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on all models for 2003. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is standard on xlts.  the f-150 model matrix is huge, and includes some specialty models. The high-performance svt lightning packs a supercharged 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 380 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. Special svt wheels, tires, and suspension are calibrated more for handling than for hauling. This limited-production street rod is available only as a 2wd regular cab on the 120-inch short wheelbase.  also available for 2003 is a new ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. It features a supercharged 5. 4-liter triton v8 engine with 345 horsepower and 425 foot-pounds of torque. It's available in black or optional two-tone paint, black over silver with a high cutline and orange details. Body-color bumpers, a new front end with fog lamps, a chrome grille and chrome tie-down hooks, and clear-lens headlamps are standard, as are 20x9-inch chromed aluminum wheels with the harley logo. The h-d pickup is lowered one inch, with a dual inlet-dual outlet muffler that ends in chrome 3 1? 2-inch slash-cut exhaust tips. A special 100th anniversary nameplate commemorates the centennial of ford and harley next year.  . walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, one that pays more serious attention to aerodynamics than either the dodge or gm pickups. It's rounder, friendlier and looks more like a car. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. In two years, the whole f-150 design will change to something far more radical and big-truck-like, putting an end to the aero truck phase at ford design, but for now, the f-150 is still a looker, loaded with features.  the f-150's aerodynamic hood drops away very rapidly from the base of the windshield, so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck, handy for maneuvering off-road, for parking, and when navigating in the city. Its fenders seem to make small rural roads smaller. In tight quarters, this feels like a big truck.  . interiorthe f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's passenger cars. The designers simply adapted these cues to the pickup's larger cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and in some ways better executed than the gm and dodge, big and bold but not outsized for such a big vehicle.  the mid-range f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. The xlt's cloth seats recline, and a lumbar support on the driver's side provides even more driving comfort.  all ford pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. Getting into and out of the rear seats was easy. The rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom, allowing passengers to slide their feet under the front seats. Adults should be able to ride back there for longer trips. It's also a nice, comfortable place to change into and out of almost any kind of recreational gear. And the f-150 aftermarket is a billion-dollar business. It's a great place to put cargo or pets. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. Good, solid brakes, but not impressive in terms of sheer power.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated 231 horsepower and 293 foot–pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge, most of which are larger in displacement. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little anemic for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. 2002 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This means the overall length and wheelbase can vary tremendously, the latter from 120 inches to 157. 4. lineupthree engines are available: the standard engine for the base-level xl is a 4. 2-liter v6 that generates 202 horsepower. A 4. 6-liter v8 rated at 231 horsepower is optional in xl models and regular cab xlt, and standard in all others. A 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 260 horsepower is available as an option for most f-150s. All three cab styles are offered in xl, xlt, and lariat trim levels; supercabs and supercrews can be promoted to ultimate king ranch status, with leather captain's chairs, premium audio, and unique identification.  i love the supercrew, which features luxurious rear-seat accommodations that can be converted into covered cargo storage. Overall length is kept reasonable by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5 1/2 feet. The bed is a compromise, but it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup that's as long as an aircraft carrier. The top-rung lariat supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with handsome leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and an optional moonroof and rear-seat entertainment system.  for 2002, even base-level xls are air conditioned. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on all lariat models and optional on xl and xlt trim lines. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is now a standard feature on xlt models.  with colors and options thrown in, the model matrix is huge. And this matrix includes some specialty models.  new for 2002 is the fx4 off-road package, which includes 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with exposed lug nuts, rancho-brand shocks, three skid plates, a 3. 55 axle and p265/70r17 white-outline tires. The fx4 package is available only on 4x4 models, but the package price ranges from $620-$1165 depending on trim level and body style.  the high-performance svt lightning, packs a supercharged 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 380 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. Specialized wheels, tires, and suspension are calibrated more for handling than for hauling. This limited production image-generator is available only as a 2wd regular cab on the 120-inch wheelbase.  also available for 2002 is a new limited-edition ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. It features a supercharged 5. 4-liter triton v8 engine, unique styling cues and a new color option: dark shadow grey. The 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is the third truck jointly developed by ford motor company and harley-davidson motor company. (it joins two other limited-edition models: the 2000 ford harley-davidson f-150 super cab and the 2001 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, one that pays more serious attention to aerodynamics than either the dodge or gm pickups. It is rounder, friendlier and looks more like a car than the dodge, chevy, or gmc. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. The current chevrolet and gmc trucks are still pretty new (they were redesigned for the 1999 model year), but their conservative styling doesn't look as modern as the ford's. The dodge ram has been redesigned for 2002, but retains a retro look that won't appeal to everyone (at least not as intensely as it appeals to its die-hard fans).  the f-150's aerodynamic hood falls away very rapidly from the base of the windshield, so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck; that's handy for maneuvering off road, for parking, and when navigating in tight city traffic. Like the ram, however, its fenders seem to fill small rural roads. In tight quarters, this feels like a big truck.  the 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew incorporates styling cues of the past with an innovative flair. The front end of the vehicle features a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the harley-davidson bar & shield. For 2002, a distinct rivet design surrounds the center of the 20x9-inch five-spoke chromed cast-aluminum wheels, complementing the center caps that display the harley-davidson bar & shield. Flame pin striping and chrome accessories complement the overall package. As in the past, the ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is lowered one inch. It features a specially tuned exhaust system with a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler, ending in chrome 3 1/2-inch 'slash cut' exhaust tips. interiorthe f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's successful passenger cars, such as the ford taurus and lincoln continental. Adults should be able to ride back there for longer trips. It's also a nice place to change into and out of driver's suits when we go racing.  supercrew's rear seats fold down (and are split 60/40), offering a nearly flat luggage space. It's a great place to put cargo or big dogs. I like putting all my equipment back there when i go fly fishing. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. This is because they use conventional steel leaf springs at the rear.  up front, the 2wd pickups use a coil-spring independent suspension, while the 4x4 versions use a torsion bar front suspension.  power steering is over-assisted, to make it easier to park and maneuver in tight quarters.  we find the brakes on ford trucks to be average in stopping power and average in fade characteristics.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated 231 horsepower and 293 foot-pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge. For any customer contemplating those kinds of duties, the 5. 4-liter v8 engine is a much better choice. summaryford's f-150 is still among the most car-like of the full-size pickup trucks, with slick looks, pleasing performance, a comfortable cabin, and a proven powertrain.  ford's new f-150 supercrew is the most comfortable of the light-duty crew cabs currently available. model lineup4x2 styleside 120-in.
