2005 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The standard for suvs is completely redesigned. introductionthe introduction of the all-new jeep grand cherokee represents a bold move by daimlerchrysler. Yet its proportions are completely different from before, with more steel and less glass, a laid-back windshield, the trademark giant wheel well flares, and a slickly angular body without the cladding of the previous generations; just one small spear. The d-pillar has been laid forward, which cuts into cargo space, but it sure looks cool. It's got a replaceable chin spoiler on it, and it looks mean. Inside, it's got nearly 70 cubic feet of storage and three modern, if not brand-new, powerplants.  interior materials are dramatically improved over the previous model's, which left much to be desired. The atmosphere inside the new grand cherokee is light, comfortable, and more enveloping than the previous model, more bolted in than hanging on from the driver's perspective, with lots of seat adjustment, excellent outward vision around the relatively slim posts, and all the switches and controls clearly labeled and easy to find and use.  for the first time, a jeep can be married to the engine that put chrysler back on the map, the 5. 7-liter hemi. It's particularly good for towing or driving at higher elevations. However, we found the 4. 7-liter v8 worked great. The standard v6 is a vast improvement over jeep's old inline-6. A new suspension gives the grand cherokee much better handling, leaning less in corners, along with better ride quality. Its turning radius is tighter, too, good when driving off road or in crowded parking lots.  jeep engineers have come up with a larger, edgier and more macho suv with an engine that's among the most powerful in the segment. This is after years of being afflicted with old, weak engines and saddled with a small cargo compartment. lineupjeep grand cherokee comes in two models, laredo and limited. The basic laredo comes standard with a 210-horsepower 3. 7-liter v6 and a five-speed overdrive automatic transmission. A 4. 7-liter v8 or 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is available for both laredo and limited. Side curtain air bags are optional.  a dynamic handling system (dhs) is available as part of the quadra-drive ii 4x4 system on late-2005 hemi models. Dhs reduces body roll, or lean, when cornering, resulting in sportier handling. An electronic stability program (esp) is also available, and comes packaged with the hemi.  options include gps navigation built into the radio 1,200), a rear-seat dvd entertainment system, a trailer tow package 255), boston acoustics audio, uconnect hands-free communication system 275), smart beam headlamps that sense the available natural light and adjust accordingly, and rear park assist 1,200). The traditional off-road package 420) with tow hooks is available, along with chromed alloy wheels, and an engine block heater for winter trekking. On the limited model, the gauges are surrounded by chrome rings.  the cargo area features a reversible load floor panel that flips over on itself to create a shallow container, for more versatility in the rear storage compartment. As a system, the new interior is far better organized, more light in feeling and color, and altogether more roomy than the previous version, which had been around since 1993. driving impressionto be honest, we didn't like the old grand cherokee very much, because we never thought it was very grand. It was small inside, with a dark, confusing interior, too much plastic, really cheap seats, and not much cargo space, but always fun off-road. This new grand cherokee erases all the bad stuff about the old version, but keeps the mountain-goat-like off-road performance, finally becoming grand in the process.  the basic laredo comes standard with the chrysler-made 210-horsepower single-overhead-cam 3. 7-liter v6, borrowed from its sister trucks, the jeep liberty and dodge ram, with its own five-speed overdrive automatic transmission. The 3. 7 replaces the tired, old 4-liter inline six engine that was in the last grand cherokee and was a relic from american motors' inventory of 25 years ago (still used in the wrangler). The v6 gets an epa-rated 16/21 mpg city/highway, while the v8s get 14/21. It's coupled with new lighter, more compact and more precise power rack-and-pinion steering that's reasonably quick and accurate, and nicely weighted. There seemed to be a more flatfooted, glued-down attitude with this big jeep, with far less body roll than the previous model, which had a bit of body roll built into it that paid some comfort dividends off-road. This one is just as comfortable on- and off-road without it.  front suspension travel is increased by almost 10 percent over the previous grand cherokee, and the new steering geometry yields a tighter turning circle, which counts heavily off road. A new five-link rear suspension combined with the new steering and new front suspension produced a boulevard ride, and cornering prowess, like no other jeep in history, an enormous improvement. We don't usually go around flinging 4500-pound suvs into corners, but this one invited a little bad behavior, which was very rewarding within the limits of its tires. 2004 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Introduced more than a decade ago and redesigned five years ago, it lacks the refinement found in the latest wave of suvs. People were fawning over it. Granted, it was an inferno red overland model. Granted, the 2004 models feature a new front fascia that updates and freshens the looks. The point is, people still love the grand cherokee even though it's been a familiar site for some time now.  and they continue to buy them. Grand cherokee ranks among the best-selling suvs in america. Jeep sells about 220,000 grand cherokees a year. That's a whole big bunch. Grand cherokee sales outrank such popular nameplates as tahoe, suburban, yukon, expedition, and durango. And the imports don't even come close. In one month, september 2003, jeep sold 16,410 grand cherokees, which would not be a bad half-year for the mercedes m-class or bmw x5. This drives other manufacturers crazy. The marketing people for every suv sold in america list grand cherokee as a competitor simply because jeep sells so many of them.  why is grand cherokee so successful? For starters, everyone knows what it is. The jeep grand cherokee combines luxury with impressive off-road capability. It served as a symbol of success throughout the 1990s. It can tackle steep slopes, slog through mud, and plow through snow. It's reasonably quick with the available high-output 4. 7-liter v8. It was completely redesigned for 1999. It has been continuously revised since for improved ride quality, easier steering effort, improved brake pedal feel, and increased safety and convenience.  grand cherokee is luxuriously appointed yet competitively priced. Its interior is attractive and tastefully trimmed in handsome wood. Its list of features looks impressive. Msrps range from $26,980 for a six-cylinder 2wd laredo to $38,995 for a 4wd overland with a v8. Hordes of new suvs offer a smoother ride, better handling and more refinement. Grand cherokee has a relatively rough ride. Its new navigation screen is relatively small (though the system itself is modern and the screen works great for displaying radio stations). Its radio buttons are small, fussy and hard to operate. And in many other ways it does not feel like a contemporary product. Until then, the current model strives to deliver the american dream. lineupjeep has expanded the grand cherokee line to five for 2004: laredo 27,260), limited 32,190), and overland 37,015) continue. A new special edition model has been added along with a new freedom edition. This inline-6 with overhead valves is rated at 195 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque. A 4. 7-liter overhead-valve v8 is available that develops 235 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque and comes with a five-speed automatic transmission.  a high-output version of the 4. 7-liter v8, with 265 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, is standard on overland and optional on limited, special edition, and freedom edition models. The v8 comes with the five-speed automatic transmission plus goodyear wrangler eagle es p235/65r17 tires.  laredo, the base model, comes with a high level of standard equipment, including a six-speaker infinity sound system with cd player, cloth upholstery, a six-way power driver seat, tilt steering, cruise control, and power windows, mirrors and locks.  the new two special edition models are essentially packages added to the laredo. The special edition features the monochromatic exterior design cues of the limited model, plus fog lamps and an am/fm/ cassette/10-disc cd audio system with infinity speakers. Special edition 4wd models are upgraded with the quadra trac ii transfer case. The freedom edition adds high-back cloth seats with jeep logo embroidery on driver and passenger seat backs and chrome tow hooks.  more luxurious is the limited model, which adds leather upholstery, automatic dual-zone climate control, fog lights, universal garage door opener, low-back bucket seats, and other features. A 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, a memory function for the driver's seat and mirrors, and other features are available in option packages.  overland adds satin-silver aluminum wheels and metallic-painted side rock rails. Overland comes with a 10-disc cd changer and express-open power sunroof. Ceiling-mounted side-curtain air bags are standard. walkaroundthe 2004 jeep grand cherokee gets a fresh look with a new front fascia, new grille and new fog lamp appearance for all models.  grand cherokee is readily identifiable in a market crowded with on-road suvs. From its jailhouse grille to its squared-off wheel openings, there's no mistaking the grand cherokee for anything but a jeep. Short front and rear overhangs contribute to its off-road capability, and to its pulled-taught styling. Slightly rounded edges and a subtle bulge in the roofline modernize, but do not detract from, a design heritage traceable to the 1941 original. interiorthe interior of the grand cherokee is attractive and comfortable. The overland's redwood burl wood trim is attractive and tastefully applied (and it is wood, not plastic).  the front seats are comfortable, though they seem cushy for serious off-road driving. Tall drivers with long legs will find themselves moving the pedals all the way forward (away from them). The pedals automatically reposition themselves with the seats and mirrors when the available memory function is activated, a boon to couples who are significantly taller or shorter than their significant other. That feature relieves the long reach to the dashboard for the radio controls, a reach made longer by the grand cherokee's high seating position.  the gauges on limited and overland models are electroluminescent, so the dials themselves appear to glow at night. It's a more pleasing look than the conventional setup, where the pointers and numerals are lighted against a darker background.  the new navigation system 1,200) nicely integrates the global positioning satellite data with the radio controls. The 4. 9-inch full-color display on the center console is relatively small by contemporary standards, but it's a crisp readout that displays a map of the surrounding area. On the other hand, this system costs less than most navigation systems. The screen does an outstanding job of displaying radio stations in big, crisp numerals.  the stereo system buttons themselves are too small and too hard to operate while driving. Annoyingly, there's a separate set button for station presets, more awkward than the more common method of holding down a preset button for a few seconds. This same awkward button is used for navigation functions. The available cd changer is mounted in the right rear of the cargo compartment in a form-fitting compartment, not as handy as an in-dash changer.  big knobs make adjusting cabin temperature quick and easy.  rear legroom is tight for long-distance trips with large fishing buddies, but adequate for a night on the town with another couple. Climbing into the back seats is relatively easy thanks to wide doors.  the rear seats fold flat (after removing the headrests) to reveal a decent-sized cargo compartment with a flat floor. Tie downs are provided on the sides and floor, handy for securing cargo. The rear tire lies under the floor, which allows mor. 2008 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Yet it is instantly recognizable as a jeep.  inside, the atmosphere is light, comfortable, and enveloping, with lots of seat adjustments, and excellent outward vision around relatively slim windshield posts. Switches and controls are clearly labeled and easy to find and use. In back is nearly 70 cubic feet of cargo space.  a wide range of engines is available. The 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is particularly good for towing or driving at higher elevations. The high-performance srt8 model has a 420-horsepower 6. 1-liter hemi v8 and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. The smaller, 4. 7-liter overhead-cam v8 gets 70 more horsepower for 2008 for a total of 305 hp; we found this engine works quite well. The 4. 7-liter engine is offered in most states with e85 flex-fuel capability, meaning it can run on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol. The new entertainment options consist of sirius backseat tv with three child-oriented channels and jeep's mygig, a 20-gigabyte hard drive that holds songs, pictures, and navigation system map information.  grand cherokee was last redesigned for the 2005 model year. It rides better on all surfaces and its turning radius is tighter.  hill-start assist holds the brakes on a hill to allow smooth launches. Hill-descent control uses the abs to control the rate of speed when driving down steep hills. Air conditioning is standard, along with cloth upholstery, power windows, power locks with remote keyless entry, eight-way power driver's seat, tilt-telescoping steering wheel, am/fm/cd audio with auxiliary input jack, driver information center, 60/40 split folding rear seat, an engine immobilizer, water-resistant storage compartment and 17-inch wheels. Quadra-trac ii, which includes low–range gearing, is optional 595) with the v6 and standard with the v8. Quadra-drive ii full-time active 4wd is optional 795) with either engine. Quadra-drive ii has low-range gearing, traction control, and front, center, and rear limited-slip differentials.  the limited 35,965) comes with the 4. 7-liter v8 and leather upholstery with heated first- and second-row seats. For 2008, the stereo has jeep's mygig entertainment system, which includes a 6. 5-inch touch-screen and a 20-gigabyte hard drive to hold songs and pictures. Limited 4wd 38,555) gets all that plus hill start assist, hill descent control, and quadra-trac ii, with quadra-drive ii as an option.  the hemi is optional 845) on both 2wd and 4wd limiteds, and the 3. 0-liter turbodiesel v6 is optional for both 2wd 3050) and 4wd 3700) models. Other options consist of rear dvd entertainment, 18-inch wheels, and, new for 2008, high-intensity discharge headlamps with auto leveling. Platinum accents highlight the exterior. Overland 4wd 43,440) adds quadra-drive ii.  the 3. 0-liter diesel engine is optional for 2wd and 4wd overland models, as are sirius backseat tv and rear dvd entertainment.  the srt8 40,525) comes with a 6. 1-liter hemi rated 420 horsepower, a lowered suspension, its own electronic all-wheel-drive system, and run-flat tires. Distinctive bumper fascias and 20-inch wheels make srt8 instantly identifiable. Inside are sport seats, special trim, and a level of standard features roughly analogous to those of the limited model. Options can bring an srt8 nearly up to the overland level of comfort and convenience.  options include a rear-seat dvd entertainment system 1,200); a sunroof package 800); various trailer towing packages; uconnect hands-free cell phone link 275); rear obstacle detection 255); rear backup camera. A skid plate group 295) is available, along with an engine block heater 40).  safety. walkaroundin appearance, the grand cherokee is modern and square-edged, with a fashionably high waistline and small side windows. The shape of the body is designed to protect the sides of the vehicle from potential road debris.  for 2008, the grille has been lengthened, the headlamps made more circular, and the front fascia has been redesigned as a two-piece unit with a lower section that can be removed to allow more clearance over rugged terrain.  while conventional suvs, such as the dodge durango, are built on a separate frame like a truck, the grand cherokee uses an unusual construction scheme jeep calls uniframe, a close marriage of a welded steel unit-body and underlying front and rear modules. This is an extremely sturdy and rigid concept developed back in jeep's days with unit-body pioneer american motors. The grand cherokee has earned a five-star safety rating in both front and side impact tests from the federal government.  limited models present a flashier appearance than laredo models, with a chromed grille, bright inserts in the bumpers, and accent-color bodyside molding.  the overland is distinguished by mesh-texture grille inserts between its traditional vertical grille bars, which are platinum in finish; platinum accents also appear on the bumpers, side molding, roof-rack side rails, liftgate light bar, and mirrors. Wheels are chromed, and the front sill guards are brushed stainless.  jeep reached deep into its heritage for the overland name. First built in 1903, the overland automobile was the earliest ancestor of the willys. Willys played an instrumental role in the development and production of the world war ii-era jeep, but was also the first automaker to seriously envision a civilian market for a military-style utility vehicle. The willys jeep debuted in 1946 and had its name shortened to just-plain jeep in the early 1960s. Although the jeep brand has passed through several owners since then, its lineage remains unbroken.  the srt8 has a monochrome look all its own, relieved by bright trim at the belt level and bodyside and accented by enormous five-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. Functional air ducts in its more buff front bumper fascia improve brake cooling. Srt8 is available only in bright silver, brilliant black or inferno red. interiorfor 2008, jeep grand cherokee gets an upgraded interior with a soft-touch instrument hood, a new steering wheel with controls for the electronic vehicle information center, a revised instrument cluster with brighter led illumination, a leather-wrapped and chromed parking brake handle, and new armrests with improved ergonomics.  the seats are large and cushy in all trim levels except srt8, the better to enjoy the generous interior space. On laredo they are upholstered in cloth with leather as a package option, while limited seats are two-tone leather with perforated inserts. In overland, the seats are upholstered in saddle-perforated high-contrast two-tone ultrasuede, featuring accent piping and embroidered overland logos. Overland also features real wood trim on the steering wheel, instrument panel, door panels, and gear selector. The center armrest is leather-upholstered, and unique colors are employed.

The luxury hot rod of sport-utilities. IntroductionThe Grand Cherokee is the flagship of Jeep's sport-utility family, and, in some respects, remains ahead of the ever-growing and ever-improving compact-class pack. The idea was to take the Cherokee concept a step up the aspirational ladder, combining rugged Jeep attributes with the luxury, comfort and performance associated with expensive cars.  When Chrysler introduced the Grand Cherokee in 1992 sport-utility sales already were booming, with Jeep Cherokee enjoying year-over-year sales gains for more than a decade Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Power Mirrors✔ Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Climate Control✔ Leather Seats

Introduced more than a decade ago and redesigned five years ago, it lacks the refinement found in the latest wave of SUVs. The point is, people still love the Grand Cherokee even though it's been a familiar site for some time now. 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale Climate Control✔ AM/FM✔ Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Changer✔ Navigation System✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ CD Player✔ Aluminum Wheels

More space is available for cargo because the spare tire was moved from its upright position on the left rear side of the cargo compartment to lie down under .  The front seats are comfortable, with thickly padded longitudinal ribs, but they seem a bit cushy for serious off-road driving. 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale Chrome Wheels

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. IntroductionIf only style counted in the highly competitive sport utility market, Jeep's Grand Cherokee Limited would be the hands-down winner. It's held in high regard but penalized by a rather hefty price tag7---nearly $30,000 out the door depending on equipment and market. As it is, Chrysler's ultimate Jeep offering has sales figures that fall behind segment leader Ford Explorer and the Chevy Blazer/GMC Jimmy offerings Climate Control✔ Cruise Control
